AFS Real Raw Meat products Do NOT contain cow brain matter, spinal cord, hair, horns, teeth, eyeballs, intestines, hooves, beaks, bowels, etc.; nor does it contain any 4-D meats/parts (downed cattle) or rendered materials, other hidden ingredients and/or other animal meats not listed on an AFS product label.

Predators!

In the wild, predators hunt other animals--not grains produced by plants--eating organ tissue first.  One can readily see how nourishing organ meats (by-products) are.

The term "by-products" has somehow acquired an undeserved negative connotation in some circles. However, though AFS is required to use the term by-products on all labeling, only the very nutrition-rich organ meats found between the shoulders and the first stomach are included in product manufacturing.   (The official AAFCO definition, however, reads:  The non rendered clean parts, other than meat, derived from slaughtered mammals.  This includes, but is not limited to, lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, livers, blood, bone, partially de-fatted low temperature fatty tissue, stomachs and intestines freed of their contents.  It DOES NOT include hair, horns, teeth and hooves.)

This is an excellent source for the cat for highly digestible protein, fat and minerals.  Finely ground bone is utilized to balance the formula so that the proper ratios of minerals are present, such as calcium and phosphorus.  Finely grinding the bone provides a greater surface area for stomach acid hydrolysis and subsequent intestinal absorption.  Bone has a wide variety of minerals.  Don't mistake this ingredient for meat and bone meal, a highly variable and mediocre source of nutrients for cats; plus meat and bone meal in ordinary cat foods has been cooked at least twice!
