This broad spectrum proprietary formula contains: Amylase, Protease I, II, & III, Peptizyme SP®, Lipase, Cellulase, Lactase, Maltase, Sucrase and Bromelain. Enzyme activities are standardized with malto-dextrin and are derived from specially cultivated plant sources.

  Calculations were made using 4 cups of dry dog food per pound at 1/4 tsp. of Universal Enzymes per cup.

All dogs are different and may require special amounts. Due to the high potency of the formula, some dogs will only tolerate or need 1/8 tsp. per cup. Divide the per cup amount for small dogs being fed less than a cup. For therapy, slowly double the amount after initial tolerance has been established.

We set the standards high when we developed our Universal Enzyme Formula. We looked at what the majority of dog owners fed and considered all of the problems they faced. We then reviewed all the successes we have had using blends of enzymes as well as many specific types of enzymes. The four primary food types that enzymes need to digest are proteins, fats, carbohydrates and fiber. There are literally thousands of other food substrates that also need to be digested. Each has an enzyme responsible for breaking it down into a usable form. It takes a variety of enzymes to cope with the digestive health problems our pets face. About our Enzymes

It all began over 40 million years ago when the direct ancestor of the dogs we know today became part of the predator/prey relationship. This natural, perfectly balanced scenario has been perfected since the beginning. We are, of course talking about the wolf. Our dogs may look very different on the exterior, but internally they are essentially the same. Through human manipulation by selective breeding we have managed to change body styles, coats, sizes, etc. The one thing we can not change is the internal workings of the dog. Actually by selective breeding and the elimination of natural selection breeders have in many ways hindered the dog’s ability to cope with life. Certainly many could never survive in the wild. Add in processed dry dog food, preservatives, colorants, antibiotics, steroids, and it’s no wonder dogs have so many health problems. In fact dogs have evolved eating raw, enzyme laden food. Somehow we thought we could change things that evolution has taken millions of years to perfect. Someone invented dog food in a bag. Since then we insist on feeding them cooked, enzyme deficient, dead food. If you think about it there is nothing a dog would or could cook! The same is true with cats.

Just like us dogs have enzyme producing organs such as the pancreas and liver. They also have the ability to secrete enzymes all along the digestive tract. The problem is that dogs do not secrete or manufacture enough digestive enzymes to deal with a diet that does not have enzymes in it. If food is not broken down into its proper form several problems occur. A large undigested portion of it gets dumped out on your lawn. Consider the savings, when you don’t have to pay for food that’s not being used. By using enzymes you will not need to feed as much. It is not uncommon to cut your food costs by 15 to 30%. Stools will become smaller and continue to break down making cleanup easier. Regarding allergies, research has shown that the absorption of undigested proteins, carbohydrates and fats manifest into skin and coat problems. The best of foods can nourish if digested or cause a multitude of problems if not. Undigested fat and carbohydrates become stored as useless, soft, excess weight. The dogs are condemned to carry this extra weight around putting excess stress on their joints, inviting arthritic changes. Other dogs may have a problem gaining weight. In their situation enzymes will help put the weight back on. The weight will be created as muscle not as stored fat. Energy levels will increase due to better conversion of carbohydrates and fat into glucose, a vital energy source.

What To Expect

You should see overall improvement of coat, digestive problems and energy levels within five to ten days. Allergies improve in 3 to 4 weeks. Arthritic conditions will usually show improvement in 5 to 6 weeks. All dogs are different so the response time may be shorter for some and longer for others. The severity of the condition, diet and environmental conditions will also determine the recovery time. A high quality food and the addition of probiotics/friendly bacteria will enhance recovery. Probiotics work with enzymes by transferring digested food into the body and reducing gas. They also help control pathogenic bacteria.

Most dogs, when fed enzymes, will show nothing but improvement. They will maintain good weight and thrive on less food. Possible side effects can happen but are not always noticed when first introducing enzymes.

• Flatulence/ excess gas: this results from the cleaning out process taking place in the digestive tract. As enzymes begin breaking down old undigested food/ fecal matter deposited throughout the large and small intestine, methane gas is produced and passed. This will usually cease in 3 to 5 days. The condition rarely occurs again unless the dog is overfed. A reduction in food or dosage of enzymes will generally solve this problem.
• Loose stool: Due to the increased food conversion this condition is a normal response by the body to rid itself of excess nutrition. Reduce the food 10 to 15 % or reduce the dosage of enzymes to alleviate the condition.

Vomiting: Very uncommon! This is generally an indication of hyper sensitivity to a particular enzyme, normally protease. Reduce the dosage 75% and slowly increase it over a 2 week period. If the condition persists for more than three days discontinue use and consult your veterinarian. This may be an indication of an irritable bowel or a weakened digestive tract that should be checked by your vet.
