Technical Data
The following data is extracted from a scientific investigation into the botanical composition HOKAMIX. This investigation was conducted in an independent scientific laboratory, by:
Dr. APR.E. VERHAEREN
Industries – Apotheker, aver n.v., Bisschoppenhoflaan, 358/9 2100 deurne, Netherlands. The investigation was conducted in June 1995
1. General Considerations
In order to improve or restore the health of dogs and cats, the first consideration is that they were initially carnivores. All necessary fats, proteins, vitamins, sugars, mineral and trace elements had to be supplied by captured prey. Until recently, it was believed that this feed source provided all the basics needs. However, the research has established and proved that carnivores are unable to biochemically synthesize all the necessary vitamins and proteins.
This can be illustrated in the following way: Humans are enables to synthesize ascorbic acid [vitamin C], whilst rats are able to do so. Many years ago, it was found that the seaman on whaling ships who suffered from vitamin C deficiency were able to overcome their deficiency by eating the rats present on the ship.
This clearly explains why carnivores, whose prey is usually herbivores, consume the intestines and their contents of their captured prey first, before consuming the remainder of the animals. It proves conclusively that the botanical contents of the prey’s intestines were and still are a nutritional necessity.
It therefore, can be concluded that most, if not all carnivores need an additional supply of plants and plant extracts to satisfy all their nutritional requirements and reach their full potential.
The natural instinct of carnivores demand that they consume the herbal contents of their preys intestines prior to the remainder of the animal.
However, the domestication of dogs and cats and the creation of 'human friendly' feeds and feed regimes have created many problems for the dogs and cats.
Scientific investigation has also established that every living creature has a nutritional requirement additional to high quality proteins, fats and sugars. These requirements include non digestible plants fibers, bones fragments and minerals and trace elements. (Even in humans, non digestible plant fibers are needed to aid the peristaltic action of the gut and so prevent constipation, which can be responsible for the generation of harmful compounds and the reabsorbtion of toxins).
Having established quite clearly and conclusively the needs for 'plants' to be added to the diet, it is vital that the correct 'plants' are included that give the maximum benefit to the dog and cat.
The 'plants' and herbs added to HOKAMIX can be divided into several classes with distinct characteristics and distinct curative and preventive properties.
2) Plants containing specific vitamins present in HOKAMIX

|
The plants shown in the above table, besides their vitamin content, have characteristic organic compounds providing the following pharmacological effects:
-
Stimulation of blood circulation.
-
Stimulation of the immunological system with increased resistance to infections.
-
Stimulation of the liver and bladder function resulting in more efficient digestion.
A level of antibiotic activity can be attributed to the addition of Agropyron repels. It should be noted that the pharmacological effect on the use of natural vitamins cannot be compared to the effects produced by the addition of synthetic vitamins - natural vitamins produce negligible side effects, the benefits last longer and their action of the metabolism is much less severe.
3) Plants containing essential oils present in HOKAMIX

The Pharmacological effects of the plants in the above table are:
-
accelerates the digestion process.
-
antipasmodic effects.
-
antibacterial and antiseptic action thus preventing/controlling infections.
-
the prevention of common cough & lung disorders.
-
active against flatulence
-
a tonic for the nervous system.
As detailed earlier, the effects of natural vitamins are less severe than the addition of synthetic vitamins.
4) Plants containing fixed oils present in HOKAMIX
The plants Prunus amygdalus (Almond Tree) contain a fixed oil ( 45% - 50 %) and 20 % - 30 % proteins.
The fixed oil, principally Almond Oil, is high-grade medicinal oil containing unsaturated fatty acids. These fatty acids are considered as having a preventive effect on cardiovascular disorders.
Moreover, almond oil in an emollient preventing constipation.
5) Plants containing trace elements present in HOKAMIX
|
Name
|
Spore Element
|
Pharmacological Effect
|
|
|
|
- Gastric ulcers
- Chronic constipation
- Source of iodine and bromine
|
|
· Laminaria
|
|
- Gastric ulcers
- Chronic constipation
- Source of iodine and bromine
|
The addition of these two plants, which are principally seaweeds, will result in the following pharmacological effect:
-
softening of stools in cases of chronic constipation
-
in depletion situations, they are excellent source of iodine and bromine
-
treating effects on gastric ulcers.
6) Conclusion as written by Dr. APR.E.VERHAEREN
"It is evident that mammals (in this case domesticated dogs and cats) and other carnivores do NOT obtain all the necessary vitamins, minerals and trace elements by eating meat alone. Scientific evidence proves that even carnivores, and in particular domesticated dogs and cats must have an intake of natural 'plants', to maintain an enhance their physical well being and condition.
The product investigated, HOKAMIX cannot be considered a medicinal drug, but as an essential natural feed additive.
Most domesticated dogs and cats need the physical exercise inherent in nature to find food - however, few achieve the exercise levels required - this in turn can lead to constipation - the vegetable plant mixture in HOKAMIX prevents this phenomenon along with the accompanying symptoms of spasms, poor digestion and the occurrence of gastric ulcers.
The blood circulation is stimulated as is the liver and bladder function. Additionally, the 'plant' mixtures in HOKAMIX possess certain antibiotic and antiseptic action.
In addition, HOKAMIX can be considered as a high quality feed supplement providing the essential vitamins A, B, C & D along with the trace element bromine and iodine.

Hokamix is a proprietary formula. Only the master herbalist who mixes this special blend knows the actual amounts of each herb. This is also true for many other products that protect their formulas and products from being copied by bootleggers or knock off artists. Coca-Cola® is a good example; the formula is a well-kept trade secret, and is not patented.
